License Information Iowa is a lottery draw state with applications done by phone in May for deer and January for turkey. If not drawn you will receive a preference point. In May, you may purchase a preference point instead of applying for a license. Hunters born after JAN. 1, 1972, must have a Hunter’s safety Certificate.
